In 1997, International Fired Up! Month
was founded.
Celebrated from October 1-28, this
month focuses on enthusiasm and joy, where people learn what
gets them Fired Up! and incorporate that into their lives.
Seminars, workshops, "Fired Up!" Inspiration Circle
gatherings, parties, services, and community events take place
worldwide as people spread their heartfelt work.
The culmination of International Fired Up! month is the
4th Sat. in October, International Make a Difference Day,
which encourages people to volunteer to help others on an otherwise
normal day. The fifth Make a Difference Day held in 1995 involved
865,000 people from all 50 states and 24 countries. These people
gave of their hearts, wallets and busy schedules to help others.
Each year, ten people are named the day's most outstanding participants.
They receive national awards and $2000 each in charitable donations
from the creator of "Make a Difference Day," USA
WEEKEND. Fifty Honorable Mentions and special Encore Awards
are also presented. These awards are given out during National
Volunteers Week in April. This event is held in partnership with
The Points of Light Foundation and its network of 501 Volunteer
Centers.
So spread your "Fired Up" enthusiasm,
and start a "Fired Up!" month celebration in your community.
